I was tasked to created a cohesive visual identity for an exhibition that doesn’t exist. “Chairs Found on YouTube” Is a collection of 26 screenshots of YouTube videos that feature a chair.
The main visual technique I used in my identity is removing the chair from its context in the video. This started as a static poster but then evolved into motion, where the chairs bounce back and forth between the frame of the video and being on top of the title.
When transferring this identity into the form of an exhibition checklist booklet, I kept the same technique of removing the chair’s context. I achieved this but printing the title and YouTube video frames on a sheet of acetate and having the cut-out chairs line up below it. So as the user flips through the first page, the chair’s context is removed.
